Step 1 – After Installing: Change Your Administrator Password, we have step-by-step instructions here.
Step 2 – Add a Nickname to your admin account. People like to read posts written by real people, not “admins”.
Step 3 – Create Another User With Administrative Privilege. A second ID that has admin rights for emergency situations.
Step 4 – Confirm and Update Blog Title & Tag Line, Settings -> General and update the information there.
Step 5 – Disable Option For Anyone To Register. Can you change this later once you have your website up and running if you choose. More information on this at ” WP-User Roles”
Step 6 – Writing Options – Go to Options –> Writing and configure how you want the write panel you to display, and also other options related to converting content and correcting improper HTML in the post to be XHTML valid.
Step 7 – Setup Reading Options – Static page or blog home page, number of posts displayed on web and RSS (full).
Step 8 – Comments, set comments to be approved or not and avatars.
Step 9 – Setup Media Options For Images
Step 10 – Privacy & Disallowing Search Engines From Crawling Your Blog – yes you want google to crawl your site.
Step 11 – Setup Permalinks – what are your links going to look like?
