Settings – General Page

Overview of the settings on the General page.

From the Dashboard

Step 1 – Under the Settings Menu, click General

  1. Blog Title – the blog title is what you have named the blog, this can be anything you would like, but it should be the same of related to your domain name.  This is added to the Meta tags and is read when Google spiders your site.   This can be changed at any time.  This also appears on the web browser and in bookmarks.
  2. Tagline – this is a short description or the tagline for your company.  This can be changed at any time.
  3. WordPress address – this is automatically filled in when you install WordPress. This screen capture shows a managed hosting install and this can not be changed.
  4. Blog address – this is automatically filled in when you install WordPress. This screen capture shows a managed hosting install and this can not be changed.
  5. Email address – this address is filled in during the install process and this is the address that all WordPress automated messages is sent to and from.  This can be changed at any time.
  6. Membership – if you check this, you will allow any to register on your WordPress. If you allow this, you can set what level of access they are allowed.  You can read more about the access levels at WP-User Roles
  7. Timezone – set to your current time zone, this is important when you are scheduling posts
  8. Date Format – set to your preference
  9. Time Format – set to your preference
  10. Week Starts On – set to your preference, this is important when you display a calendar on your sidebar

Step 2 – When you are finished updating, Click Save Changes
